Civic Type R racer
UK’s AutoTrader has uploaded a new Youtube video comparing the 2023 Civic Type R to the previous gen model. The latest generation FK8 Type R came with slightly more aggressive exteriors while the newer FL5 looks a bit more sober and mature. That said, both cars get large wings, functional aero bits and triple tailpipes to differentiate them from the Civic Type R racer regular Civic.
In the first race, FL5 got a better start. It maintained this lead all the way to the checkered flag, beating the old FK8 by a car length. Both cars have similar powertrains, but it’s the improved transmission that gave the FL5 the edge on the track. It could put down its power more efficiently.
The team then made a rolling start that almost negated the new Civic’s advantage. This means that both cars were neck and neck from the starting line all the way to the finish line. The FL5 does make slightly more power Civic Type R racer than the FK8, but it is both the heavier and more expensive of the two.

2023 gave the Honda Civic a facelift. That said, both cars come with Honda’s 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine. The four-cylinder K20C1 produces 315 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. The older one has slightly less power at 306 hp and 295 lb-ft. Both cars are equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
In terms of pricing, the 2023 Civic Type R is priced at $44,390. This is a lot of money for a car that basically performs more or less the same as the previous generation version Civic Type R racer .
